Good afternoon, guys! How are you?

I'm bored and restless and generally too lazy to start working, so I'm waiting for the cats to show up and have my kittens fix of the day. But, as I wait for them, I'm thinking about the ranking list which always comes a bit wrong because it's hard to choose between favorite episodes of your all time favorite series and maybe I could do a post about my fave episodes?

Let's do a whole post.

(I still haven't read that bit about doing the cut on DW. I'm so sorry!)

MY 25 ALL TIME FAVE BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER EPISODES

A very hard thing to do while ranking episodes was to choose between the ones I love. Episodes that aren't so great in terms of narrative or plot, but are significant to me as a person. And, you know, I was also thinking that I started watching this show at fourteen years old and I'm sure that sixteen me would have picked episodes like "Passion" because it was romantic and angsty enough for my teenage self and Angel was quite an object of attraction for me, at the time.

I'm almost thirty now and this show stayed with me for so many years. I've changed, I've grown and I find different meanings in the narrative that followed me and shaped these formative years. And this is where a narrative proves its greatness, because it evolves with us and it has different angles to look at in different times. My angles now - and for the last decade maybe - are mostly about Buffy and her coming at age, along with Willow and Dawn and Anya and Faith. The Buffyverse is the place where I can see myself, portrayed in different female characters.

So anyway:

1. The Body

2. Restless
, this episode aged so well in terms of experimenting with absurd shoots and dialogues. The core characters' portrayals in their existential moment - Willow and her struggle with identity, Xander and his search for meaning, Buffy ... - are so powerful I believe one can identify with each member of the gang in different moments of his life. That makes the episode always relevant.

3. Selfless, a true masterpiece of episode IMO. I love the journey of Anya, again with the searching of her identity, sticking with each and every alias she chooses for herself and later falling in love and sticking to that alias too. The song is so beautiful, we've been blessed with the inclusion of a OMWF cameo and a retrò wig that gives as the good wife vibes - put intended. "What if I'm really nobody?" Do you ever cry?

4. Intervention

5. Blood Ties
, because it's such a wonderful Buffy & Dawn bonding episode, it makes me emotional af, and I loooove when Spike reassures Buffy when they are searching for missing Dawnie. A parallel, considered the previous fight. Spike & Buffy as concerned parents are everything ever, yes I'm a monogamous sappy spaz.

6. The Freshman, actual GPOY of yours truly.

7. Hush

8. After Life

9. Checkpoint

10. Bargaining part I & II.
"Where did I go? I was here. Here. But then I run away." I find that watching it is strangely comforting.

11. Pangs. "It's a sham with yams."

12. Living Conditions. "SHARE THIS!"

13. This Year's Girl / Who are you? Maybe my fave combo episode ever? I've always thought it was one of the scariest though, because being robbed of one's body and identity is terrible.

14. Doppelgangland, I remember - back when I had the DVDs that I lost - watching Joss' list and there was "The Wish" in his favorite episode list and I was a bit puzzled because I actually think it's a good episode but a bit overrated. It doesn't change anything in the narrative as whole. Still, if the result is this episode, I'm on board. Maybe one of the funniest Buffyverse episode ever. I love poor lost Vamp!Willow.

15. No Place Like Home, do you ever cry at the final Dawn/Buffy scene?

16. Triangle, cute ponytail Buffy comfort episode. Don't judge me!

17. I Was Made to Love You
, so okay, some episodes are entirely perfect and great from start to beginning. Some are experimental and daring. This episode is neither, but it has a place in my heart because of the final scene between Buffy and the robot. So beautiful, so bittersweet. I love the fact that Buffy is more compassionate towards a potentially dangerous sexbot than his disgusting creator. I love the dialogue bit while she's sitting with April and comforting her as she dies. A great foreshadow of what's to come for Buffy, the losing of innocence, the desire to be perfect and "good" for the ones we love, Buffy's final resolution that comes right before "The Body", the episode that changed everything. "It's always darkest before dawn" and the "when life gives you lemons ..." Formative af to me.

18. Conversation with Dead People

19. Real Me
, Dawnie's diary POV forever.

20. Fear, Itself

21. The Weight of the World,
because I love dreamy Buffy episodes and because we have tiny Buffy flashbacks and a better look of her psyche, which actually foreshadows the S6 issues.

22. Fool For Love

23. Showtime
, remember the bit about "perfect iconic scenes that represent a whole not so perfect episode"? The final shoot with Buffy rescuing Spike.

24. OMWF

25. Tabula Rasa

And yes, there are other episodes I absolutely love and I guess episodes that define the show and its legacy (Surprise/Innocence, anyone?) But these 25 great or silly choices are home for me and all in an ideal number one spot.

Happy Easter - or just sunday if you don't celebrate anything in particular - everyone!

Here with ... two memes? I kinda want to steal the one [livejournal.com profile] lokifan is doing right now, so feel free to pick a character and ask me:

* How I feel about this character:
* All the people I ship romantically with this character:
* My non-romantic OTP for this character:
* My unpopular opinion about this character:
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
* Something about them I consider true, even though it's only my head canon/fanon:

(Besides BtVS and AtS you can pick a character from: Hannibal, The Good Wife, Doctor Who, Luther, Being Human US or UK - but until S3 - Thor, Sherlock, True Detective, Dollhouse)

And I'm doing the other meme too

Hi everyone! Today something scary happened to my laptop. Basically I saw a wire burning in front of me. And I just learned that maybe there is something wrong with the feeder (Is it the right word? I'm using the English vocabulary here because I don't know the names of these stuff) So tomorrow I'm going to bring my laptop to the maintenance guy hoping that there's nothing burned on the inside. Pray for my personal computer. >O<

I have the bad habit to bring the laptop to bed when it's late and, for example, I want to write these meme posts and I guess that it's wrong because sometimes I overheat the computer. I'm trying now to just put it on my legs by I should buy one of those things to bring the laptop to bed. (I'm using an old laptop because I'm too scared to use mine)

I hope everything works fine. I don't want to lose my laptop and I don't want to spend money to buy a new one. But I'll try to be more careful with it and don't overheat it so much.

Also happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] stormwreath!

Good evening guys! I'm here for another post of the meme, but first I want to share this article: Dante, Redemption, and the Last episode of "True Detective" I wasn't the only one who thought about Dante watching TD.

Although not everything in the article is correct. For example, lust and pride aren't the "big sins" for Dante. Lust, in fact, is a minor sin. The worst sins are betrayal and hybris (Lucifer becomes a monster and falls into the Earth because he wanted to take God's place. Also the chapter with Ulysses is very meaningful on that matter) In Dante's thelogical point of view Marty would be an "incontinent", somebody who submits his human will to material urges. Anyway it's an interesting article to read.

Hi! Do you mind if I start this long - really long - old meme? Everybody did it except me and I know that you already know how I feel about Buffy, but I'm always willing to talk about BtVS and I slept a lot this afternoon so I'm incredibly awake.

On a sidenote, the latest episode of The Crazy Ones was boring - especially all the Sydney and Simon's parts - but I think I'll maybe watch until the end of the first season. Look what I'm doing for you, SMG! Also tomorrow I'll watch True Detective's last episode.OMG I WANT/DON'T WANT TO! >O< I'm so curious to see how it ends but I also will be a little bit sad because it's an amazing show. True Detective is beautiful in a scary, depressing, disturbing way. And I'm kinda shipping the most doomed ship of all time, so I'm pretty pleased.

Day 1: Favourite season )
kikimay: (Brain nerve and bounding heart)
I'm rewatching Buffy S5 as a comfort food. I think it's my favourite season: everytime I rewatch it I love it even more and I think is the perfect mix between heartbreaking angst, amusing villains and Big Bad, some lovely romance hints and comedy moments. There's also Dawn, who changes the narrative completely. (About that, go read [livejournal.com profile] kwritten meta!) Lovelovelove S5.

Incidentally I also saw the covers from S10. The release date is planned for March or something and watching the almost perfect S5 makes me lose my enthusiasm about the comics. (That and the whitewashing) but the covers are kind of pretty.

BtVS, issue #1

Rebekah Isaacs' first cover - I generally love Isaacs' style and the dynamism in her art. Only thing that bothers me: she didn't get Buffy. The slayer is drew too similar to Willow and SMG's face is really something else. Angel seems in another dimension compered to the other guys.

The variant cover: http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/25-169/Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-Season-10-1-Rebekah-Issacs-variant-cover For some reasons Buffy is still in high school and the vampires are mocking her. Deep symbolism, I guess.

Steve Morris' one: http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/22-559/Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-Season-10-1-Steve-Morris-cover

Issue #2

Steve Morris: http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/22-715/Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-Season-10-2-Steve-Morris-cover This cover is really pretty (Also, yes, you're looking at baby Giles. Say hello.)

Rebekah's variant: http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/25-170/Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-Season-10-2-Rebekah-Isaacs-variant-cover I think that this is my favourite cover. Still Buffy doesn't seem herself, but I love the closeness to Faith - who is drew perfectly - and the difference in their fashon styles, because it's something that the comics missed so far. Buffy has a really eclectic dressing style.

.. And these are the covers. I go back to my lovely S5.
kikimay: (Brain nerve and bounding heart)
Because of [livejournal.com profile] kwritten 's meta about Dawn I'm having the feels.

First of all I rewatched Blood Ties and Older and Far Away. And I love these episodes with my whole heart, Blood Ties especially, it's one of my favourites and it's really perfect: so angsty and touching with a bit of comedy and an amazing Anya and I like Glory being a crazy bitch dressed in red and do you even notice how pretty Willow's hair is or how beautiful is SMG?

Blood Ties is one of those episodes that makes me know exactly why I love the show so much and why Buffy Summers is my personal hero. I'm really moved by her courage and her love for Dawn; she's really the Immortal love of her life and Buffy chooses her. She chooses her sister and true love. Also this episode has the most, I don't know how to say it, marriage-like dynamic between Spike and Buffy. I love how they argue about Dawn and how Spike ends comforting Buffy and giving her his support and help. That's my OTP. (People, keep voting them on those polls!)

And talking about Dawn, I have to phraise Michelle Trachtenberg's performance. She's really amazing in the whole episode. She was so young at the time and still so incredibly talented. My heart breaks when she shows her blood and she said - with all her rage and sadness - that the Key can't be her. Such a powerful portrayal.

I'm also thinking about my OC, Annie and how much she's similar to Dawn and how strongly I identify with her. I never thought about it but Annie is really a mini-Dawn and she's the character I relate the most. So, maybe, my relationship with Trachtenberg's character is much more complex than I thought. I need to write more about it.

Also, if you want to read a good Dawn's fic I can suggest Daisies by [livejournal.com profile] spike_1790
kikimay: (Brain nerve and bounding heart)
Watching Homeland, Season 2.
I loved the premiere and I think this season is much better than the first. I lurve the action sequences, gah! And I like the new guy, Quinn: he's strange. The romance between Dana and the vicepresident's son was kinda cute, until they fucking named themselves after Jefferson and his slave!!1! I'm not an expert on american history, but Sally Hemings was a slave until her death, he never let her free. I think it's fucking creepy. Brrr.

Love, love, love Buffy Season 5.
I've rewatched the first two episodes: the tenderness and the perfection. Buffy is most beautiful than ever and I adore Dawn's introduction, it makes you think: what?! When? HUH? And stare at the screen speechless. Well played, Whedon and Noxon.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the beautifulness (I don't even know if this word exists) of Buffy with curly hair, can we? I dance on the Kinsey Scale everytime she's on screen.
Willow is cute and Riley's so annoying. I was one of the most tolerant fans on Riley. But, seriously, dude: GTFO of my show!
Unpopular opinion: the actor who played Dracula wasn't so bad, but his hair and his make-up were terribile.
kikimay: (Brain nerve and bounding heart)
I periodically rewatch, in random order, BtVS episodes , 'cause I'm obsessive about the show.
Actually I'm becoming more and more fan of Season Four and Five, I wouldn't imagined. I've always thought to be more attracted by the darker aspects of the show, by Buffy's struggle with her vampiric boyfriends and her final battle in Season Seven.
I still adore Season Seven (Especially the first half) and I'm still a big fangirl for Season Six, but I noticed I tend to rewatch more Season Four and Five, the happiest seasons, I think.
All right, in Season Five we've got The Body, Into the Woods and the big, emotional finale, but still it's a very happy season. Maybe because I'm very emotional towards Buffy's changes of mood and I think that, in those Seasons, she's more calm and emotionally stable than ever. She manages to be loving and tender towards Dawn, even after Joyce's death. Also, more daylight scenes. (Or it's just an impression?)
Season Four is the funniest season, the one with Pangs, Something Blue and Hush. It's the season of Anya becoming part of the gang, of bodyswitch and cute witches in love, the season of wisecracking, hilarious Spike and more sympathetic Xander than ever; Season Five is, maybe, the perfect season for storyline and balance between comedy, action and angst. Also, Buffy's single, which I think it's a very lovely choice, one in a while.
Season Nine should be like that.

Here random thoughts )

By the way, about the Doctor.
I'm still impressed by the latest episode, The Angels take Manhattan. The Ponds - all of them - are amazing. I really going to miss Rory (Awh Rory!) and Amy. River's final dialogue with the Doctor was one of the most touching things I've ever saw and Matt Smith's interpretation is always magnificent. Love, love, love.
kikimay: (Brain nerve and bounding heart)

I've got a little bit of headache, like always, and I'm rewatching BtVS Season Four, in random order.
(Don't ever ask me to rewatch - or just watch, for the matter - an entire series in proper order. I'm not able to do such thing.)
Season Four is happy and colourful and many scenes are played in the daylight. It's lovely to see Buffy happy, after all the angst for Angel, and great comedy bits all the way.
I rewatched Restless, This Year's Girl and Who are You?, which is kinda strange for me. Restless is one of my favourite episode of all the time and I've watched it many times, but the other episodes with Faith kinda left me always pretty rage-y.
I've always hated to see Faith stealing Buffy's body. In my personal imagination, that was one of the most disturbing things ever showed in Buffy. And many things are pretty disturbing in BtVS!
But, the idea of someone taking your body against your will, taking your life: your family, your relationship, the things you care the most. I'm being overly emotional, I know, but it always creeped me out and I hated Faith very much for doing this to Buffy. I also find stupid how many people in the italian fandom were on Faith's side in this particular circumstance, because it was fun to see Buffy without her precious privilges.
Ugh.
Yes, I'm a Buffy-team girl, but I still think it would be hateful even if the object was Willow or Anya or whatever.
But, you know, this time I really, really loved rewatching these episodes. Watching Faith - inside Buffy's body, in her nightmares about an impassible, cruel Buffy - I really loved SMG's performance and, most of all, the writing, I loved Faith's characterization, her envy and her accuses to Buffy and Buffy's reaction. (Yes, I love Buffy even in Sanctuary, when she's a bitch.)
It make me wanna start to traslate again my only Faith/Buffy story and share with the international fandom. I want to analyze in a deeper way Faith and Buffy's relationship even in the spuffy fic.
It's important that we actually see Faith making the bed for Dawn. I didn't think about this particular detail: in Faith's dream, she and Buffy made the bed for the new girl, for Buffy's sister (blood of her blood)
In a way, Buffy's more a mother for Dawn: it's her blood that made Dawn real and she's her only family after Joyce dies. It's really interesting watching Buffy making the bed (which is a pretty symbolic gesture, at least in my culture) with another woman for a new life.
Awh, I need to write more about Buffy and to see more Faith and Buffy - in a happy way still - things (fanfic, fanart and so on)

Also, I met an italian Spuffy fan in an english LJ!
I believed I knew all the italian fans (Well, many of them. A great part!) and it was a nice surprise. I can share my Spuffy urges with one more person, because I need an happy ending Spuffy, you know? I simply need it.
They are my OTP.
